On to Fanad and Rosguill
Travel on to the most northerly part of the Donegal Gaeltacht and explore the exciting Rosguill Peninsula. The Peninsula, which projects out into the Atlantic between Sheephaven Bay and Mulroy Bay, offers some of the most spectacular views in all of Ireland. Travel along the scenic Atlantic drive and see for yourself the majestic cliffs, seascapes, beaches and glorious headland views. Linger awhile at Na Dúnaibh (Downings) - with its splendid golf on Rosapenna’s 18-hole course and with fishing boats, golden sands and more Donegal Tweeds reflecting all that is rich and colourful in this Donegal Gaeltacht. Here during the summer you can watch locally caught salmon, lobster and crab being landed in the harbour. The beautiful crescent shaped beach, fronting Downings village, has won a national blue flag and is an ideal place to relax. The village is a central place from which to explore the Peninsula, with readily available accommodation. Walk along the prehistoric sandunes between Na Dúnaibh (Downings) and Carraig Airt (Carrigart), visit Doe Castle of the MacSweeney’s and peaceful Carraig Airt, a picturesque village with Victorian architecture that adds to its unique character and charm.

And now it’s time to drive towards journey’s end at Cionn Fhanaide (Fanad Head) and beach, to marvel at the splendour of the Knockalla coast road on Lough Swilly and the Dolmen at Gorthavern, to drink in the culture, character and ancient history of this lovely peninsula, perhaps to play a final game of golf on Portsalon’s 18-hole links.
