Fastnet Rock... Warning Lights

Ireland Map
The Gael Saoire Fastnet Rock... Warning Lights
Out from Cape Clear and standing defiantly in this great sea is The Fastnet Rock (An Charraig Aonair) with its lighthouse flashing a warning light, at five second intervals, to passing ships. The Fastnet Light dates from 1906. It was built in Cornwall of Cornish Granite. Each block of granite was tongued and grooved to fit into the next before the lighthouse was test-built by Cornish craftsmen. It was finally taken apart, having passed all tests, before it was transhipped to Fastnet and rebuilt permanentlyon the rock.

The Fastnet Rock is the Western Turning point for the bi-annual thrilling Fastnet Yacht Race in which yachtsmen from all over the world pit their skills against the elements.
