Oughterard Golf Club
Founded as a nine-hole course in 1974, it was upgraded to 18 in 1982. Oughterard quickly established a reputation for being a friendly, but progressive club which embraced all the best qualities that golf could offer, a testing challenge, excellent food, a hospitable bar and welcoming members. Located beside Lough Corrib at the edge of Connemara, Oughterard soon became the place to golf in the West of Ireland.

In 1997, the club members, mindful of the need to provide the very best for discerning golfers, undertook the bold step of substantially upgrading both course and Clubhouse to reflect its stature as a location of excellent International standing.

The converted farm buildings, which served as the Clubhouse, were cleverly incorprated into plush modern facilities, while the course was transformed, under the watchful eye of International Course architect, Patrick Merrigan to one of wonderous beauty by utilizing all the natural features of this once O`Flaherty estate and fusing them with modern standards of design and imagination to create a magnificent layout at Oughterard which re-opened for play in 2000.

The course from the Medal Tees measures 6426 yards, but a choice of teeing areas offers golfers of all abilities an opportunity to test themselves against lesser or greater distances, but whatever the choice, careful shot planning is essential to avoid the multiplicity of hazards which innocuouslty await you.
