Game Fishing and Sea Angling

Ireland Map
Game Fishing
Game fishing in the Kerry Gaeltacht is found on the outer extremities of the two peninsulas that form the bulk of the county. In the northern peninsula, the Dingle Peninsula, the rivers and lakes are generally small, although capable of giving sport when the right conditions prevail. The fishing on the southern peninsula, Iveragh, is somewhat better as it contains the larger river and lake systems, all noted for their runs of spring salmon, grilse, sea trout and brown trout. The visiting angler can be sure of adequate information and services at all times. The season for some of the game angling species begins on January 17th and continues until the beginning of September. Prospective anglers should check locally concerning the availability of species at particular times of the year.

Sea Angling
Sea angling is of a premium quality in this region. The influential Gulf Stream waters from the Gulf of Mexico drift close to the south-west coast of Ireland and every year sub-tropical species of fish mingle with blue shark, gurnard, tope, wrasse, pollack, mackerel, plaice, spurdogs, bass, ray, conger, dog fish, huss, whiting, mullet, codling and coalfish, constituting a great variety of fish in some of the cleanest waters in Europe. The following is a list of licensed boat operators based in the Kerry Gaeltacht. Anglers, however, are advised to make their own enquiries in respect of licences and insurance requirements.
