arrived in New York, on August
21st, after covering 9,000
miles in 107 days.
Nearby is the Lighthouse at
Mine Head designed by
George Halpin and situated on
the cliffs to the south of
Dungarvan. The lighthouse
was established on June 1st
1851. It has the highest
elevation in Ireland and it was
converted to electricity in
1964.
Ballynamona in Old Parish
holds the remains of a Court
Cairn known as Caileach
Bheara, a megalithic tomb
dating from around 2,000 B.C.
Nearby also is the charming
village of Ardmore with its
striking round tower, gardens
and Saint Declan's way. A
famine graveyard, known
locality as Reilg an tSléibhe, is
situated near to Dungarvan
Parish. For hikers or bikers,
walkers or birdwatchers, Ring
and Old Parish are hideaways
of cliff top trails, unspoiled
beaches, inland drumlins and
leafy glens.
